Dog taken by shark at Sydney beach prompts warning

The puppy's proprietors seen the occurrence at Bonna Point, a prominent off-rope shoreline, said Sutherland Shire Council.

"We were pretty damaged, it was terrible," one proprietor, named just as Nigel, told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Experts have introduced cautioning signs since the assault on Sunday and prompted beachgoers and pet proprietors to stay away from the water.

"New South Wales Department of Primary Industries encourages individuals to abstain from swimming or surfing when it is dim or amid sundown hours," the committee said in an announcement.

The American Staffordshire Terrier, named Molly, was getting a stick at the time and did not restore, the proprietors said.

"It was snappy. It just took her under the water," Nigel was cited as saying.

The occurrence was accounted for to include a bull shark, yet experts couldn't affirm the species to the BBC.

The episode takes after a current arrangement of shark sightings at close-by shorelines this month.

On 9 February, a kite surfer was recorded on video riding towards a shark at Brighton Le Sands.

A couple days after the fact, a shark was spotted 10km (6 miles) inland at Alexandra Canal, close Sydney Airport, while another shark was found in shallow water in Botany Bay.

Two individuals were slaughtered by sharks in Australia a year ago - both in Western Australia - as per Sydney's Taronga Zoo.
