West Indies´ Russell gets year ban for doping breach
Globetrotting West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell has been prohibited from all cricket for a year over a doping code infringement, his Australian Twenty20 club said on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old did not record his whereabouts on three events in 2015 as required, which constitutes a fizzled drugs test under World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules.
His discipline was passed on by the Jamaican Anti-Doping Commission on Tuesday.
"We are crushed for Andre," said Sydney Thunder general supervisor Nick Cummins, in affirming the result.
"We haven't seen the composed judgment, yet given the conditions encompassing the documenting disappointments we thought he had a decent shot of being excused.
"We will screen the interests procedure and survey our choices."
Under WADA's whereabouts rules, first class competitors must supply subtle elements of where they will be for one hour every day to encourage medicate tests.
Russell played the initial five diversions of the Big Bash League this year for Thunder before pulling back because of harm and being supplanted by worldwide colleague Carlos Brathwaite.
Sydney Thunder chief of cricket Mike Hussey said he felt for Russell.
"I feel for him. He's been experiencing a truly intense time generally with all the "whereabouts" adventure going on and he's been holding up to hear the finding of that hearing," Hussey told the Cricket Australia site.
